20th Century vs. 21st Century Methods

21st Century Methods.

20th century methods worked only about 1 in 5 times to help people stay free of drugs and alcohol. 21st century methods are 4 times more likley to lead to long term comfortable recovery. 21st century methods are now being employed by a rapidly growing body of centers across the country, yet,   AccelRecovery Inc. is still the only treatment center in North Texas to use the newer style of treatment. This new method is based in the results of advanced research that has been done in the last 20 years that has clearly established what addiction is, how it develops and how to treat it so that a broad array of symptoms can be managed. The 20th century method is based in traditions developed in 1939! A time when no serious researchers investigated the true cause of addiction-in fact this method actually calls alcoholism an allergy and advises eating sugary foods to help manage the disease! No wonder so many fail when trying these methods. How can you win against an illness when you don't even know what your fighting? Here are the facts:

Alcoholism and Addictions are Brain Diseases

Stress, genetic predisposition, ADD and ADHD,trauma, depression and other brain irregularities and availability/strength of drugs and alcohol; all can play a role in the development of the disorder. The Limbic system of the brain fails to perform its normal function adequately because of one or a combination of the above noted factors and becomes dependent on drugs/alcohol to prompt its regulatory system to work. The brain is a fragile organ composed mostly of fat (about 60%). Exposure to toxic substances reduces judgement not just when they are present, the effects on judgement last in subtle ways long afterwards. A vicous cycle begins. The limbic system begins to need outside substances to help it work correctly while judgement about the effects on the life of the person using them is subtly clouded through damage to higher thinking functions.

Breakthroughs in Treatment

Today treatments are available to stop the cycle. Medications and/or advanced nutritional supplemention calm cravings, self training in powerfully relaxing stress management techniques, healthy eating-exercising-sleeping patterns restore health and a sense of well being/control.Self assessment training and motivational counseling increase desire to live a happier and healthier life while relapse prevention training provides tools to maintain balance and sobriety that is truly comfortable.
